EPO is increasing its fees - BDC will help you to save money

13.02.2008 - The European Patent Office (EPO) has announced on December 14, 2007 to incerase the official patent fees in general and the annuity fees in specific as of April 1, 2008. The increase in case of the annuity fees are substantial and will lead to an average increase of 250 Euro or about 30% of todays fees. For more details see the following link to the EPO Annoucement.

However, on the short run it is possible to save money by paying until March 31, 2008 on the basis of the present rates those annuity fees which are due on or after April 1, 2008.

In this context BDC with its dedicated patent administration partner IPRIS is prepared to assist you in making the necessary payments in time and before March 31, 2008 in order to save you money.

Just send an e-mail to our IP Administration Expert Dr. Steffen Schwarz at steffen.schwarz@bdc-basel.com with the patent number and country where annuty payments are due in order to get an offer. Alternative you can also use the following link on IPRIS' website.

I do not think that the increase in the renewal fees wil have an effect on the speed of granting EP Patents. The increase reflects the growing number of EPC member states to which the renewal fees are distributed by the EPO.

Is an improvement of the average duration concerning patent-issuance to be expected from the increased fees?

EPO renewal fees can be paid in advance up to one (1) year before the due date. In this case all applications can be renewed which are due from April 2008 until March 2009.
